Culinary Herbs - Rosemary
Rosemary is a woody evergreen shrub. These can get big - about 3-6 feet tall, depending on the type. It is a great herb to use for meats, soups, flavored oils and breads. Once your plant is established, it is very easy to grow and maintain.
For a beginner, I wouldn't advise you to try starting this one from seed. It is notorious for being inconsistent in germination. Seeds have to be extremely fresh and conditions need to be ideal. If you can't guarantee perfect conditions, you are better off with cuttings or nursery plants.
As your plant starts to grow, pinch off any new buds to encourage more growth. Once established, you can clip off sprigs any time you want to use them.
In colder climates, it's a good idea to plant your rosemary in a container. It is not hardy enough to withstand harsh winters, and the roots are too delicate to tolerate regular transplanting.
